#WomenInLearning Series: Christina Jordan

March is Women’s History Month, and the theme this year is “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories.”

To celebrate the stories of women in the learning and development field and multiple education spaces, we reached out to internal and external partners and thought leaders to talk to them about their professional lives and the stories that have inspired them.

At ansrsource, we believe in the power of storytelling to educate, connect, and enrich people’s lives. We are grateful to the women who chose to share their stories with us. We hope you enjoy learning about the women we spoke with as much as we loved speaking with them.

Happy Women’s History Month!

What is your favorite part about working in Learning and Development?

There is always something new to learn! Whether it’s new content or simply learning from someone else’s viewpoint—there is always something new to learn. Everyone’s perspective is shaped by their life experiences, so we all have different understandings of the same information. So even if we are reviewing content we have already seen—we still have the possibility to learn from it. Learning never ends.

Is there a woman you looked up to as a kid or look up to now?

Nichelle Nichols. If you don’t know her, she was an African American actress (as well as singer and dancer) who is best known for playing the character Uhura in Star Trek. She played one of the first leading recurring Black female characters and is credited with one of the first interracial kisses on U.S. TV. Later in her life, she helped NASA to recruit women and people of color to apply to be astronauts, thus changing what space exploration looked like for our country. She broke boundaries by refusing to be anyone other than herself and used her various platforms (media and science) to break those boundaries.

Do you have a favorite nursery rhyme or kids’ book?

I have a 9-month-old right now and his favorite nursey rhyme is “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”  Whenever he is upset, all I have to do is start singing this song and he immediately calms down.  Thus far it has worked every time (*knock on wood*).

Is there a particular app you are loving right now?

I am a huge TikTok user!  I actually learn quite a bit on that platform—life hacks, cooking recipes, excel shortcuts, historical facts, drawing tips, etc.  You name it—I can find a microlearning video about it on TikTok.
